Our Stories

A Story that Shaped Us

By Udaan Learning Foundation

By the time he reached Grade 10, Suresh was already a leader. He was the school captain and a representative of the Junior Red Cross. He was the backbone of the football team, tall, strong, and silky with his feet. Inside the classroom, he loved solving maths problems. From teachers to his peers, everyone loved him for his warmth and helpfulness. He could be a little immature at times, but it only added to his charm. If you met him at school, you would believe that he had a bright future ahead. Suresh lived with his mother. His father was not in the picture, and his siblings had married and moved away. As a household of two, they faced significant challenges in meeting their financial needs. When he completed his SEE examinations, Suresh dropped out of school to support his family. Without financial support, he could not continue his higher education. Suresh’s story is not unique. In fact, it reflects the reality faced by many capable young people in Nepal. Their fate is shaped not by lack of talent or effort, but by circumstances. Udaan was born because of stories like his, stories that remind us how much promise can be lost and how necessary it is to provide timely support. By standing with students like Suresh, we believe we can help ensure that hard work and potential are not lost because of circumstances.
